About PressLens: Print Preflight

PressLens checks a print PDF before you send it to the printer – on your iPhone or iPad, without uploading it anywhere.

Open a PDF from Files, Mail or the share sheet and PressLens reads the file's real structure: the page boxes on every page, how much bleed actually sits outside the trim, which fonts are embedded, the printed resolution of every placed image, the color spaces in use (RGB, CMYK, gray, spot colors), output intents, transparency, overprint and hairlines. Each check is graded against the print profile you choose, and you get a clear verdict: Ready for handoff, Needs review, or Fix before sending.

WHAT IT CHECKS
- TrimBox, BleedBox, CropBox, MediaBox and ArtBox read from the page dictionary, including inherited and defaulted boxes
- Bleed measured on all four sides of every page, in millimeters
- Page-size consistency, with A-series, US and common card sizes named
- Effective image resolution at the printed size, following scaling and nested forms
- Font embedding and subsets, with every font listed by page
- RGB, CMYK, gray, Lab, ICC-based and spot colors, with spot ink names
- Output intents and PDF/X declarations
- Transparency (soft masks, opacity, blend modes, groups) and overprint
- Strokes thinner than your minimum line weight, including zero-width hairlines
- Encryption, rotation and annotations

PROFILES
Five built-in profiles: Offset – sheetfed, US commercial (1/8 in bleed), Digital press, PDF/X-1a style and Large format & signage. Change any setting and save your own profile.

SEE EVERY PAGE
The Pages view renders each page with its trim and bleed boxes drawn to scale, and every page has a detailed box table.

FIX PAGE BOXES
Got a PDF exported with bleed but no trim box? PressLens writes a corrected copy with proper TrimBox and BleedBox values, re-checks it, and lets you share it. Your original file is never changed.

REPORTS AND HISTORY
Share a paginated PDF preflight report, a CSV table or JSON. Every file you check is kept in History on your device so you can re-check it against another profile.

SHORTCUTS AND FILES
Use the "Preflight PDF" action in Shortcuts, or choose PressLens from the share sheet in Files and Mail.

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO
PressLens reads the PDF's structure. It does not render separations, measure total ink coverage, check trapping, certify PDF/X compliance, or judge whether your artwork really extends into the bleed. Always confirm your printer's specifications.
