Iran began funeral ceremonies Friday for late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with coffins displayed at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla as officials prepared a dayslong procession expected to draw large crowds across Iran and Iraq.
AP reported that Khamenei’s flag-draped coffin sat alongside family members killed in the opening moments of the war, and that Revolutionary Guard chief Ahmad Vahidi appeared publicly for the first time in months before the funeral.
CNN reported that Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization said airspace over Tehran will be completely closed Monday for the procession. CNN also reported that ceremonies are expected at multiple locations from July 4 to July 9.
The security picture remains unsettled. CNN reported that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned against attempts to target the country during the funeral period, while AP described lingering concern that Israel could attack again. Shadowfetch is treating that as a risk lane, not a confirmed threat.
