Iran has begun funeral ceremonies for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the late supreme leader killed in the recent war, with his casket on display at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla ahead of several days of processions in Iran and Iraq.

AP reported from Tehran that Iranian authorities are preparing major street closures, airspace restrictions and public ceremonies as mourners gather for a dayslong funeral. AP also reported that Revolutionary Guard chief Ahmad Vahidi appeared publicly ahead of the funeral after weeks out of view.

CNN’s live coverage reported that Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization said Tehran’s airspace will be completely closed Monday for the procession, and that foreign delegations and large crowds are expected across the events.

The schedule matters because the funeral is expected to stretch from the first public farewell in Tehran into processions and prayers across multiple locations through July 9. That gives Iranian authorities several days of crowd-control, transportation and diplomatic-security pressure rather than a single ceremony to manage.

The ceremonies also arrive as diplomacy and military signaling remain unsettled after the war. CNN reported that indirect U.S.-Iran talks are expected to continue after the funeral, according to Qatar, while AP described the funeral as part mourning ritual and part state display after weeks of conflict. Those parallel tracks raise the stakes for any misread movement around Tehran or the processions.

The security risk remains developing rather than confirmed. Iranian military officials have warned the U.S. and Israel against attacks during the ceremonies, while CNN reported that a second Marine unit is now operating in the Middle East. Shadowfetch is keeping this first file narrow: confirmed funeral movement, confirmed airspace restrictions and attributed warnings only. We are not reporting a specific threat or assigning any planned attack without stronger evidence.
