About Biophony

Make repeat listening visits easier to compare. Survey Notebook keeps site, method, conditions, elapsed effort and your own sound labels together, with optional links to existing field recordings.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Open Field Log → Survey Notebook. Enter a site and method, add conditions or notes, then start a visit.
2. Log one detection for each observation under a human-entered label. Optionally link an existing recording. Undo removes the last detection.
3. Finish the visit to freeze its duration. Visits with zero detections are retained and included in exports.
4. Select two finished visits to read and share a contextual comparison of label counts, effort, method and conditions.
5. Export detections CSV or the complete notebook JSON. Notebook data is stored locally and a corrupt existing file is preserved rather than silently replaced.

Continue using Biophony’s field-recording, sound-library and visual analysis workspaces alongside the notebook.

WHAT TO KNOW
The notebook does not start audio recording or automatically identify species. The wall-clock timer continues in the background. Counts are logged detections, not unique animals or population estimates; labels match exactly. Exports contain site names, dates, notes and linked recording titles, but not audio. JSON export is an archival copy; in-app JSON restoration is not provided. Up to 500 visits and 2,000 detections per visit.
